USS Boxer Deployment Signals Escalation as US Sends Marines to Middle East (Image Courtesy: You Tube)
Washington: Tension in the Middle East has reached its peak, and America is rapidly increasing its military power. According to latest reports, three more warships and about 2,500 marine troops are being sent towards the area. This step has been taken at a time when the conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran is continuously intensifying.
According to sources, three ships of the Boxer Amphibious Ready Group have departed from San Diego along with USS Boxer (an amphibious assault ship) – these also include USS Portland and USS Comstock. There are about 2,500 marines from the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit on board. This group was earlier in the Indo-Pacific, but now it has been redirected towards the Middle East. Although the Pentagon has not yet officially disclosed the exact location or complete details of the mission, this movement is happening rapidly.
This doesn't seem to be just a routine deployment. The US already has more than 50,000 troops in the area, and now these additional forces (especially those with amphibious capabilities) are being sent. Many analysts are considering this as preparation for some major operation – such as security of the Strait of Hormuz, control over Iran's oil export hubs, or backup of ground operations. Mixed signals are coming from the Trump administration.
Iran is also not backing down. Its military officers have clearly said that the country is ready for a long war, and the public is also supporting it. They are claiming that despite the war, arms production is continuing and there has been no reduction. Iran has continued missile-drone attacks on Israel and Gulf countries, although their number has reduced from before.
Israel says it has caused huge damage to Iran's navy, air force and missile program – such as a large part of missile launchers have been destroyed, air defense systems have been weakened. Iran has completely rejected these claims and said that its military capability is still strong. In reality, there are claims and counter-claims from both sides, but due to the reduction in the frequency of missile attacks, some effect of the Israel-America strikes is visible.
Iran's language has now become more aggressive. Direct warnings are being given to American and Israeli leaders. If this continues, the conflict will not be limited to just Iran-Israel-America; It may spread further through the Gulf countries, the Strait of Hormuz and proxy groups (such as the Houthis). Oil supply is already affected, prices are going up.
At present, there seems to be no mood on either side to retreat. America is increasing its power, Iran is talking about a long war. The coming days will be crucial – will diplomacy work or will things get worse? All eyes are on the world because it could impact global energy, economy and security. Hopefully some way out is found, otherwise it could take a more dangerous turn.
